Megadeth是開創(chuàng)美國Thrash Metal重要樂隊之一，由樂隊的核心人物Dave Mustaine于1983年被Metallica 開除后建立的，作為一支成功的樂隊，Megadeth在全球賣出超過2000萬張專輯，連續(xù)5張白金銷量專輯以及7 次格萊美Best Metal Performance提名。
Megadeth同Anthrax,Slayer和Metallica并稱為"Big Four of Thrash"樂隊。這支樂隊至今已經(jīng)發(fā)行了11張錄音室專輯，6張現(xiàn)場專輯，2張EP以及2張精選專輯，曾獲得格萊美獎提名。
樂隊成立之后成員變動頻繁，2002年，Dave Mustaine的左臂受傷，使得樂隊一度解散過，但經(jīng)過治療之后，樂隊在2004年又重新成立并發(fā)行新專輯《The System Has Failed》,2007年樂隊又發(fā)行了新專輯《United Abominations》,2009年發(fā)行新專輯《Endgame》.2011年發(fā)布新專輯《Th1rt3en》。

Dave Mustaine原先是Metallica的主音吉他手，由于吸毒以及酗酒等原因，被Metallica開除出了樂隊，1983年的夏天，Dave Mustaine在被Metallica開除后幾個月后，同貝斯手David Ellefson,吉他Greg Handevidt以及鼓手Dijon Carruthers組建了新樂隊Megadeth.Mustaine曾說："自從我被開除出Metallica后，我就下決心組建一支我自己的樂隊，我要比他們更加快，更加重！"的確如此，"Mechanix"是Dave Mustaine在Metallica時期的作品，這首歌在Metallica中叫做"The Four Horsemen",Megadeth把這首重新編曲了，使得速度比Metallica更加的快，同時也重新寫了歌詞，并把名字改為"Mechanix",很明顯這是向Metallica宣戰(zhàn)，事實上，Dave Mustaine組建Megadeth的目的就是要與Metallica競爭.Dave Mustaine起初并不想擔(dān)任樂隊的主唱，但Dave Mustaine苦苦尋找6個月都沒有找到中意的主唱，于是Dave Mustaine決定自己擔(dān)任主唱，他同時還是樂隊的創(chuàng)作者，吉他手，他的獨特的唱腔以及高超的吉他技術(shù)使得成為樂隊的靈魂人物.在樂隊初期，Lee Rausch很快取代Dijon Carruthers成為樂隊新鼓手，錄制了《Last Rites/Loved to Death》,《Skull Beneath the Skin》和《Mechanix》小樣之后，吉他手Greg Handevidt則離開樂隊加入Kublai Khan(忽必烈),在一些演出中，Kerry King曾臨時擔(dān)任了吉他手，1984年，Lee Rausch離開樂隊，新鼓手Gar Samuelson加入.憑借3首小樣，與紐約獨立廠牌Combat Records簽約，12月，Chris Poland加入樂隊。
1985年初，樂隊得到Combat Records給的大約8000美元開始錄制和制作第一張專輯，但是有一半的錢被他們拿去吸毒以及喝酒去了，無奈之下他們解雇了制作人，自己操刀制作專輯.盡管如此，1985年5月，新專輯《Killing Is My Business... And Business Is Good!》順利得到發(fā)行，并且得到不錯的評價.在這張專輯中，Dave Mustaine包辦了全部作品，除了一首翻唱Nancy Sinatra的"These Boots Are Made For Walking",專輯中叫做"These Boots" 外，不過Lee Hazlewood("These Boots Are Made For Walking"的作者)對Dave Mustaine翻唱并且改了歌名非常不滿，強烈要求Megadeth在他們專輯中刪去這首，因此1995年后發(fā)行的《Killing Is My Business... And Business Is Good!》中刪去了這首，不過2002年再次發(fā)行的時候又收錄了這首。
1985年夏季，Megadeth聯(lián)合Exciter開始在美國以及加拿大開始樂隊第一次的巡演，這次巡演期間，Chris Poland突然離開樂隊，Mike Albert取代Chris Poland加入Megadeth,10月份時候，Chris Poland又重新回到樂隊，并開始準備第2張專輯。
這張專輯在1986年3月份初步完成，當(dāng)時Megadeth還在Combat Records旗下，因為制作經(jīng)費緊張，導(dǎo)致Megadeth對剛完成的這張專輯的效果感到不滿意，為了制作更好的專輯以及得到更多的制作經(jīng)費，Megadeth轉(zhuǎn)簽到了Capitol Records,同時Capitol Records得到了《Peace Sells... But Who's Buying?》專輯的版權(quán)，新制作人Paul Lani對這張專輯重新制作和混音之后，在1986年11月發(fā)行了第2張專輯《Peace Sells... But Who's Buying?》,這張專輯日后成為Megadeth經(jīng)典專輯之一，也是Thrash Metal奠基級別的專輯，All Music Guide評價這張專輯是這10年間最有影響力專輯之一以及對Thrash Metal做出了重大貢獻.不久專輯中的"Peace Sells"成為樂隊第1個MV,并在MTV的Headbangers Ball中播放，VH1's 40 Greatest Metal Songs中，"Peace Sells"排到第11位。
1987年2月，Megadeth跟隨Alice Cooper的Constrictor Tour,為Alice Cooper開場，此后又同Mercyful Fate一起進行了短暫的巡演，3月，Megadeth開始第1次全球巡演，與Overkill和Necros一同在英國開始巡演。7月，在夏威夷的演出結(jié)束后，Gar Samuelson和Chris Poland被開除出樂隊，Chuck Behler成為樂隊新鼓手，Jeff Young成為樂隊新吉他手。
1988年1月19日，Megadeth發(fā)行第3張專輯《So Far,So Good... So What!》,專輯中的"In My Darkest Hour"是為了紀念因車禍去世的Metallica貝斯手，同時也是Dave Mustaine的好友Cliff Burton的，Megadeth此后的現(xiàn)場幾乎都會演唱"In My Darkest Hour".在這專輯里Megadeth還翻唱了Sex Pistols的"Anarchy in the UK"。
1988年6月，Megadeth出現(xiàn)在Penelope Spheeris的記錄片《The Decline of Western Civilization II: The Metal Years》的結(jié)束部分，這部記錄片主要講述了洛衫磯地區(qū)的重金屬發(fā)展情況，不過大部份是介紹Glam Metal的。
在新專輯發(fā)行不久，Megadeth開始準備So Far,So Good...巡演，1988年2月在歐洲為Dio開場，此后加入 Iron Maiden的Seventh Son of a Seventh Son北美夏季巡演。
1988年8月，在英國Castle Donnington的Monsters of Rock搖滾節(jié)，Megadeth同Kiss,Iron Maiden,Guns N' Roses和David Lee Roth同臺，現(xiàn)場觀眾超過10萬人，Megadeth原本完成Monsters of Rock歐洲巡演的，但最終在英國這一場演出后退出，并且開除Chuck Behler和Jeff Young以及取消澳大利亞的巡演。
1989年7月，Nick Menza加入樂隊成為新鼓手，但這時候依然沒有找到吉他手，只有3個人的Megadeth翻錄了Alice Cooper的《No More Mr. Nice Guy》,被收錄在Wes Craven的電影Shocker原聲帶中，Dave Mustaine這期間又因超速駕駛被捕并且發(fā)現(xiàn)吸毒，接受強制戒毒。
1990年2月，Marty Friedman加入Megadeth,Marty Friedman的加入，使得Megadeth重新煥發(fā)活力，在制作人Mike Clink的幫助下，1990年9月24日，樂隊發(fā)行了里程碑式新專輯Rust in Peace,日后證明這張專輯是Megadeth最為成功的專輯之一，在1990年的The Billboard 200上最高排到第23名，獲得1991到1992年度格萊美 Best Metal Performance提名.
同時，在9月份Megadeth與Slayer,Testament和Suicidal Tendencies一同進行"Clash of the Titans"的歐洲巡演，并給Judas Priest的Painkiller巡演開場.1991年1月，Megadeth參加了在巴西的Rock in Rio II,現(xiàn)場觀眾達到14萬了人！5月，"Clash of the Titans"巡演在美國展開，連同還有Slayer和，Anthrax,Alice in Chains為其開場.7月，單曲"Go To Hell"被收錄在電影Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey原聲帶中，"Breakpoint" 也被Super Mario Bros原聲帶收錄，1991年，Megadeth還發(fā)行了第1部家庭錄影帶Rusted Pieces,里面是一些MV以及樂隊的介紹等等。
1992年1月，Megadeth進入位于加州Burbank的Enterprise錄音室，開始錄制新專輯，該專輯的制作人是Max Norman,樂隊花了4個月完成了新專輯，名為Countdown to Extinction,在1992年7月14日發(fā)行，這張專輯獲得更大的成功，在1992年的The Billboard 200上最高排到了第2,值得一提的是，這張專輯，樂隊四個成員全部參與了創(chuàng)作。1992年11月，發(fā)行第2張家庭錄影帶《Exposure of a Dream》。
1992年12月，Megadeth開始Countdown to Extinction世界巡演，Pantera和Suicidal Tendencies加入該巡演中來.1993年1月則和Stone Temple Pilots一同巡演，不過在美國巡演后，剩下的行程計劃取消了，包括去日本的巡演。
1993年6月，Megadeth作為嘉賓出現(xiàn)在Metallica的Milton Keynes Bowl Festival上，這是10年中，第一次和Metallica同臺.7月，加入Aerosmith的Get A Grip全美巡演，由于合約上的一些爭端，僅僅7天后就退出巡演.在取消巡演后，樂隊開始錄制單曲"99 Ways to Die",之后收錄在 The Beavis and Butt-Head Experience中，在1995年獲得格萊美Best Metal Performance提名。
Youthanasia巡演結(jié)束后，Mustaine同Lee Ving,Kelly LeMieux和Jimmy DeGrasso 計劃MD.45樂隊，并在1996年7月發(fā)行專輯《The Craving》。
1996年9月，Megadeth前往Nashville錄制新專輯，這張專輯起初叫為Needles and Pins,但最終又改為Cryptic Writings,該專輯在1997年7月17日發(fā)行，制作人為Dann Huff和Dave Mustaine,在此專輯的創(chuàng)作中，他們運用了合成器。但由于改變了風(fēng)格，并不為廣大歌迷認同。
1997年6月，Megadeth開始了巡演，The Misfits為其開場，此后還有Life of Agony以及Coal Chamber加入巡演中。1998年7月，Megadeth參加Ozzfest 1998,在巡演途中，鼓手Nick Menza因為膝蓋傷疼，臨時退出樂隊，Jimmy DeGrasso臨時頂替了，不過后來取代Nick Menza,成為正式鼓手。
1999年1月，Megadeth開始錄制新專輯，制作人依然是Dann Huff,依然在Nashville.該專輯叫做Risk,1999年8月31日發(fā)行這張專輯一改以往Thrash Metal的鮮明特征，大量運用了弦樂，使歌曲缺乏力度，導(dǎo)致這張專輯并不成功，并讓廣大歌迷有所失望。9月開始全球巡演.在歐洲部分是和Iron Maiden一起的，不過這時候樂隊極為重要的吉他手Marty Friedman退出Megadeth.Dave Mustaine說："我對Marty Friedman說，我們在Risk巡演結(jié)束后，我們重新玩金屬，可是Marty Friedman卻退出樂隊了."Marty Friedman離開之后，在2000年1月，Al Pitrelli加入樂隊，頂替Marty Friedman,曾是Savatage,Alice Cooper吉他手.并且之后翻唱了Black Sabbath的"Never Say Die",被收錄在向黑色安息日致敬專輯《Nativity in Black II: A Tribute to Black Sabbath》中。4月，Megadeth進入錄音室，不過沒多久，便和Anthrax和Motley Crue一起進行“Maximum Rock” 巡演，所以錄新專輯也擱淺了下來。10月，離開呆了14年的Capitol Records,以一張精選專輯《Capitol Punishment: The Megadeth Years》作為在Capitol Records的終點。
2000年11月，Megadeth加入Sanctuary Records.2001年5月15日發(fā)行新專輯The World Needs a Hero,在繼Risk的失敗之后，樂隊又重新回到原有的風(fēng)格。此后開始了巡演.夏天在歐洲同AC/DC一起，9月和Iced Earth以及Endo在北美巡演，由于9.11事件,剩余的巡演被削減了，包括原計劃在阿根廷錄制DVD現(xiàn)場的，最后只好在Arizona州的兩晚現(xiàn)場來代替，即之后的Rude Awakening,這是Megadeth首張現(xiàn)場專輯以及現(xiàn)場DVD.2002年2月，經(jīng)過重新混音的《Killing Is My Business... And Business Is Good!》再版，相比首版的音質(zhì)要好多了。3月19日，現(xiàn)場專輯《Rude Awakening》發(fā)行。4月3日，Dave Mustaine左臂因患上Saturday Night Palsy(周末夜臂麻痹癥候群)導(dǎo)致不能彈琴，宣布Megadeth解散，Dave Mustaine隨之進行治療，通過物理治療，Dave的手臂有所好轉(zhuǎn)。
2002年9月10日，發(fā)行一張精選專輯《Still Alive... And Well?》該專輯的封面是一個墓碑，上面刻著1985-2002,前6首是現(xiàn)場(2001年11月7日在鳳凰城Web Theatre)。
經(jīng)過1年多的治療，Dave Mustaine的左臂明顯好轉(zhuǎn)了，期間對Megadeth從前的專輯進行了重新混音。2004年5月，Dave Mustaine開始進入錄音室，Dave Mustaine原本想自己單干的，但是與唱片公司還有合約，于是Dave Mustaine決定重組Megadeth來發(fā)行新專輯，但是新Megadeth的成員全部換了，此前一直在樂隊的David Ellefson 也離開了，Dave Mustaine召集了原來的吉他手Chris Poland,貝斯Jimmy Sloas以及鼓手Vinnie Colaiuta一起錄制了新專輯《The System Has Failed》,該專輯在2004年9月14日發(fā)行。10月份，Dave Mustaine決定開始Blackmail the Universe巡演，為了巡演，Dave Mustaine招募了貝斯手James MacDonough(Iced Earth),Glen Drover(Eidolon,King Diamond),最后Nick Menza再次回到樂隊，回到樂隊僅5天，就被Shawn Drover(Glen Drover兄弟，加拿大Eidolon的鼓手)頂替了，和Megadeth一起巡演的是Exodus,到達歐洲后，與Diamond Head和Dungeon一同巡演。
2005年6月28日，Capitol Records發(fā)行了Megadeth前8張專輯的精選，《Greatest Hits: Back to the Start》。
2005年夏天，Megadeth開始Gigantour,連同Dream Theater,Anthrax,Fear Factory,Dillinger Escape Plan,Nevermore,Life of Agony,Symphony X,Dry Kill Logic和Bobaflex.一起參加了各大搖滾節(jié).10月份，Megadeth來到阿根廷，參加了Pepsi Music Rock Festival,賣光了門票，受到了極大的歡迎。
2006年2月，James Lomenzo代替James MacDonough,成為Megadeth貝斯手，James Lomenzo曾是James Lomenzo,White Lion以及Black Label Society的成員.新陣容的Megadeth,在2006年3月16日，在阿聯(lián)酋Dubai Desert Rock Festival上首次露面，一同的還有Testament和3 Doors Down。3月21日，Capitol Records發(fā)行一張DVD,叫Arsenal of Megadeth,這張DVD里包括了Megadeth的一些現(xiàn)場，訪談以及MV。
2007年3月6日，發(fā)行現(xiàn)場DVD,《That One Night: Live in Buenos Aires》,這是2005年10月9日在阿根廷布宜諾斯艾利斯的現(xiàn)場。2007年3月12日，Megadeth參加了Download Festival 2007。5月15日，新專輯《United Abominations》發(fā)行，剛發(fā)行就排到第8,第一周就賣出54000張，這時候Megadeth廠牌是Roadrunner Records,這張專輯是同Glen Drover,Shawn Drover,James Lomenzo一同組的Megadeth第一張專輯，在新專輯中與意大利哥特樂隊Lacuna Coil的Cristina Scabbia合作重新唱了《A Tout Le Monde》,專輯中叫《A Tout Le Monde》 (Set Me Free)。
Megadeth樂隊的新專輯《Endgame》發(fā)行于2009年9月15日，是迄今為止Megadeth最重、最快的一張專輯，市場普遍反響較好。上市一周以來在美國境內(nèi)的銷量已經(jīng)達到了4萬5千余張。這在實體唱片銷量不景氣，而且藝人們紛紛開始通過網(wǎng)絡(luò)發(fā)行的當(dāng)下已經(jīng)是一個非常不俗的成績。他們的上一張專輯《United Abominations》的首周銷量是5萬四千張，在《公告牌》前兩百名的排名中名列第八。他們的專輯《The System Has Failed》也曾在《公告牌》取得過18名的成績，而首周銷量最高的專輯則是2001年發(fā)表的《The World Needs A Hero》，首周銷量為6萬1千張。

Megadeth is an American thrash metal band from Los Angeles, California. The group was formed in 1983 by guitarist Dave Mustaine and bassist David Ellefson, shortly after Mustaine's dismissal from Metallica. A pioneer of the American thrash metal scene, the band is credited as one of the genre's "big four" with Anthrax, Metallica and Slayer, responsible for thrash metal's development and popularization. Megadeth plays in a technical style, featuring fast rhythm sections and complex arrangements. Themes of death, war, politics and religion are prominent in the group's lyrics.
In 1985, the band released its debut album on the independent label Combat Records. The album's moderate commercial success caught the attention of bigger labels, which led to Megadeth signing with Capitol Records. Their first major-label album, ‘Peace Sells... but Who's Buying?’, was released in 1986 and influenced the underground metal scene. Despite its prominence in thrash metal, frequent disputes between its members and substance abuse issues brought Megadeth negative publicity during this period.
After the lineup stabilized, the band released a number of platinum-selling albums, including ‘Rust in Peace’ (1990) and ‘Countdown to Extinction’ (1992). These albums, along with touring worldwide, helped bring public recognition to Megadeth. The band temporarily disbanded in 2002 when Mustaine suffered an arm injury and re-established in 2004 without bassist Ellefson, who had taken legal action against Mustaine. Ellefson settled with Mustaine out of court and rejoined the group in 2010. Megadeth has hosted its own music festival, Gigantour, several times since mid-2005.
As of 2014, Megadeth has sold 50 million records worldwide, earned platinum certification in the United States for five of its fifteen studio albums, and received eleven Grammy nominations. The band's mascot, Vic Rattlehead, regularly appears on album artwork and, since 2010, in live shows. The group has experienced controversy over its musical approach and lyrics, including canceled concerts and album bans. MTV has refused to play two of the band's videos that the network considered to condone suicide.
The band encountered several setbacks through the second half of 2014. The August concert in Tel Aviv was canceled due to an armed conflict between Israel and Gaza.Megadeth was scheduled to appear on Motörhead's Motörboat cruise in late September, but withdrew because of Mustaine's complications following his cervical spine surgery.In late November, Drover quit the band after ten years, wanting to pursue his own musical interests. This was quickly followed by the departure of Broderick, due to artistic and musical differences. Ellefson denied rumors that Megadeth would disband, and said he and Mustaine would continue working on new music. Lamb of God drummer Chris Adler and guitarist Kiko Loureiro of Angra performed on Megadeth's fifteenth studio album. Mustaine said that one of the reasons for Broderick's and Drover's departure was the frustration caused by Megadeth's fan base demanding a reunion with Friedman and Menza.
In October 2015, Megadeth streamed "Fatal Illusion" off the album ‘Dystopia’, which was released in January 2016. In support of Dystopia, Megadeth embarked on a North American tour in February and March with Suicidal Tendencies, Children of Bodom and Havok. Menza died from a heart attack in May while performing with OHM at a jazz club in Los Angeles. Mustaine announced that Adler, who performed double duty drumming, was no longer in the band because of scheduling conflicts between Megadeth and Lamb of God. He was replaced by Dirk Verbeuren from Soilwork, on Adler's recommendation. A second US tour is planned for September and October with Amon Amarth, Suicidal Tendencies, Metal Church, and Havok. Speaking to All About The Rock Dirk has said "We’ve already discussed the next album and Dave asked me to contribute ideas, so I’m more than a little excited to see what I can come up with".
