The third time is the charm for alt-rap group Whiskey Blanket, a multitalented trio of vocalists known to assume their respective duties on cello, violin, and turntables quickly and unexpectedly onstage. The Colorado-based group made up of Steven "Steakhouse" Pampel (turntables, mc, production), "Sloppy" Joe Lessard (violin, mc), and Jordan "Funny Biz" Polovina (cello, mc, beatbox) released its first full-length album in 2003, dropped a second in 2007, and is now poised to release a truly career defining record in 2010. As their integration of classical instruments into the hip hop idiom has rapidly garnered them the interest and admiration of all types of music listeners, No Object seeks to build upon and emphasize that highly accessible fusion.
Increasingly influenced by the Front Range's thriving acoustic music scene, Whiskey enlisted the talented Bonnie Paine of Colorado gypsy-folk purveyors Elephant Revival to flavor No Object with her washboard, bowed saw, and sultry vocals. Determined also to collaborate with musicians outside their locale, the group called upon longtime friend and Seattle, Washington favorite Macklemore to contribute his signature rhymes on the energetic anthem "Rule the Roost." Keeping guest artists to a tasteful minimum has resulted in an album that simultaneously exposes the trio's individual strengths and relies on its developed group chemistry.
Whiskey Blanket's No Object debuts at independent music retailers on Tuesday, December 7th and is available to pre-order now at whiskeyblanket . Lucky Colorado fans can get the album before it hits the shelves at the "Official No Object Album Release Party" December 4th at the Fox Theatre in Boulder. They'll be joined by live band MTHDS, Bonnie Paine, Portland, Oregon collaborators The Chicharones (Josh Martinez & Sleep), and quickly growing Colorado acts Microphone Militants and The Pirate Signal. The show is all ages and tickets are available at Albums on the Hill and at foxtheatre .
In 2010 alone, Whiskey Blanket has shared the stage with Redman, Swollen Members, RJD2, Living Legends, Eyedea & Abilities, Zion-I, Bizzy Bone (Bone Thugs 'n' Harmony), B Real (Cypress Hill) Pep Love (Hieroglyphics) and more, also completing the "Mile High Tour" in which they repeatedly collaborated with lifelong influence Chali 2na of Jurassic 5. Whether the individual members of Whiskey Blanket were busy this year producing beats for underground rap veterans Binary Star or crafting octave violin melodies with electronic powerhouse Pretty Lights, the future is blindingly bright for these proficient twenty-somethings.
