Gabin – Third and Double
At the end of 2006, after the promotion of Mr. Freedom, our second album, we were wondering which road to take to continue our journey. Meanwhile, since the time of our debut and overwhelming success of "Doo Uap, Doo Uap, Doo Uap" the landscape around us had changed and for us, who have always been devoted to music with great passion and spirit of research, the push has been transformed by giving rise to new solutions. In both of us grew the need to discover and reveal to ourselves and to others our artistic worlds, opening our own secret box to get more personal and let our emotions flow freely.
We decided to take all necessary space to explore and expose ourselves, revealing our own artistic needs. It hasn't been an easy step, it broke a balance with no certainty of re-learning another .. and yet, as it often happens, it is the music that makes the rules. Disoriented but seduced by the new challenges we followed our natural inclinations, and after three years of hard work here is Third and Double, a double album which is also in its form, the substance of this thrilling experience. We think that the mixture of new jazz, soul, electronic and funk that characterized us from the beginning, finds in Third and Double its definition. All the ingredients that Gabin had brought in, all blended in the two previous albums, are presented in this new work in a different guise, giving the sense of what is the basis of our blend of music.
Third and Double is a sort of compass to navigate the intricate maze of the Gabin sound. Along the way were many encounters, exchanges, discoveries, confirmations. First of all the voice that for more than three years has accompanied us in our live concerts, the one of Mia Cooper that in Third and Double confirms to be a great performer as well as author of many lyrics; the amazing Flora Purim, one of the brightest stars of the brazilian and international music scene, already at the side of artists such as Gil Evans, Stan Getz, Chick Corea, Dizzy Gillespie and Airto Moreira, who made A Vida è Agora hers. And more, Z-Star, the extraordinary Anglo-Caribbean talent who passed through the recording studio as a hurricane offering some of the most intense moments with Slow Dancing dans la Maison and Life Can be so Beautiful. Gary Go, a promising young englishman who with his impeccable style has beautifully interpreted the delightful roman walk of City Song; Barbara Casini, often defined as the most important interpreter of brazilian music in Italy, and her Fim de Noite. Nadeah Miranda, the blonde chenteuse of the Nouvelle Vague, transformed for Wicked in fierce riot grrrl of the fairy tales. And last but not least, as they say, the unmistakable voice of worldwide rock star Chris Cornell who has enthusiastically accepted the invitation to sing one of the most personal and intimate songs on the record, Lies.
Third and Double is a "doublefaced Janus", a recording in which only the free creativity has taken over with no bias, because after all... you do not mean a thing if you is not got the swing! Enjoy the listening.
