by Kurt MorrisRichmond, VA-based singer/songwriter Rob Huddleston, known for his work with the punk band Ann Beretta, also showcases his abilities with slowed-down folk-influenced material. Along with help from friends and studio musicians, he created Foundation, showing that punks can do more than just play fast three-chord ditties. Foundation is a heartwarming, serious project that focuses on musical fullness and lyrical Americana. With his interest in music ranging from John Mellencamp to Tom Waits, Huddleston took songs that he had performed during solo acoustic shows and put them together for an album. Having formerly worked with Fueled by Ramen via Ann Beretta, it was clear after some prodding by the label that his brainchild would come to life. Foundation's first release, a self-titled record, appeared early in 2001. While by no means unique, the album nevertheless mingled the rousing with the introspective in a set of good tunes suited for playing on the front porch or at the local bar. Coming from a tradition such as this, Foundation's potential for success is clear to see.
