來自美國西岸圣地亞哥的一只四人組合"路易十四"（Louis XIV）。樂隊有四名成員，主唱杰森·西爾（JasonHill），吉他布萊恩·卡西克（Brian Karscig），貝司詹姆斯·阿姆布拉斯特（James Armbrust），鼓馬克·枚噶德（Mark Maigaard）。０３年４月，當(dāng)時還只有三名成員的路易十四（主唱／吉他Jason Hill，吉他／鍵盤Brian Karscig，鼓手Mark，自己出錢到法國巴黎，在一個朋友的家里用最簡陋的錄音設(shè)備，錄制了一些歌曲。兩個星期之后，樂隊離開法國回到圣地亞哥。自己將錄制好的歌曲拷成了一張叫做"路易十四"的唱片。這些歌曲迅速在歌迷里面?zhèn)鞑ラ_來。就是靠"大家告訴大家"的原始方式，沒有宣傳，沒有唱片公司的幫助，樂隊的歌曲得到了很多美國西岸獨立甚至是主流電臺的注意，頻繁播放他們的歌曲。歌曲甚至流傳到了英國的BBC一臺，很多著名的BBC的DJ（像Mary Anne Hobbs 跟Zane Lowe）都開始播放他們的歌。０４年初，路易十四甚至被邀請到英國參加NME大獎，對一個還沒有跟任何唱片公司簽約的樂隊來說，不可說不是一個奇跡?；氐矫绹?，樂隊有了一名新的成員，貝司手James Armbrust。０４年三月份，樂隊給邀請參加西南西音樂節(jié)（SXSW），出色的演出為他們贏得了更多的關(guān)注。一個月后，樂隊飛到英國參加了Mary Anne Hobb的電視節(jié)目Jamz的錄制，同時他們還在倫敦著名的酒吧Madam Jo &Jo's進(jìn)行了他們在歐洲的第一場演出。演出當(dāng)天的門票一早就售空。０４年夏天－秋天，這個時候還沒有簽約任何唱片公司的路易十四，分別被當(dāng)紅的殺手樂隊（The Killers）跟Von Bondies樂隊邀請做全美巡演的開場。沒有唱片公司在背后支持卻能為兩個大牌開場的原因很簡單，就是因為The Killers跟Von Bondies太喜歡路易十四了。０４年底，著名的亞特蘭大唱片公司終于得到了和路易十四的一紙合同。路易十四跟亞特蘭大簽約后的首張專輯（仍然是由樂隊的主唱自己制作的）"最好不要講的小秘密“于３月２２日在美國推出。在專輯還沒有推出之前，滾石雜志就已經(jīng)把把路易十四列入０５年最值得期待的藝人，榜上有名的樂隊還包括我剛剛看的皇帝領(lǐng)袖樂隊。而北美MTV電視臺更是將路易十四放到他們專門介紹最有潛力的藝人的"你從我們這里最先聽到這個"的節(jié)目里重點推薦。
by Johnny LoftusThe core unit of San Diego's Louis XIV had originally played together in the rootsy, alt-rocking Convoy, which issued an album called Black Licorice in 2001. Having moved on by 2003, vocalist/guitarists Jason Hill and Brian Karscig and drummer Mark Maigaard hooked up with bassist Jimmy Armbrust and began fleshing out the Louis XIV concept -- irreverent, oversexed lyrics and songwriting that channeled glam, scratchy punk, and vintage Rolling Stones. A self-recorded EP caused quite a stir locally, MP3s helped spread that buzz to England, and Louis XIV released more material to keep up with the growing demand. That spring and summer they played the 2004 South by Southwest festival, toured the U.S. with the Killers and Von Bondies, and signed with Atlantic Records, which issued the introductory EP Illegal Tender in January 2005 and the debut full-length The Best Little Secrets Are Kept the following March. After time spent touring -- and being banned in Alabama for the nature of their lyrics -- the band returned in 2008 with their second album, the decidely more somber and world-weary Slick Dogs and Ponies.
