by Drago BonacichMostly influenced by her grandmother at a very young age, Eva Ayllón (born María Angélica Ayllón Urbina) joined different children-oriented Afro-Peruvian ensembles in the early 70s. After making a record called Los Kipus y Eva, featuring the hit single Que Somos Amantes, Eva Ayllón decided to pursue a solo career. She debuted in 1978 with the release of Esta Noche. Named the Queen of Landó, in reference to a local folk style, her music started attracting international attention while touring worldwide in the mid-90s.
