圣馬丁室內(nèi)樂團(tuán)由內(nèi)維爾·馬里納爵士于1959年創(chuàng)立，是20世紀(jì)60年代巴洛克復(fù)興潮流的先鋒·樂團(tuán)在創(chuàng)建初期僅為一小規(guī)模的弦樂團(tuán)，1959年首次公開演奏。由于這是獲得倫敦Sant Martin-in-the-Field教堂人士的支援才得以組成的，因此，可以說是“圣馬丁教堂的樂團(tuán)” 。

500多張唱片，讓圣馬丁室內(nèi)樂團(tuán)成為世界上錄音數(shù)量最多的室內(nèi)樂團(tuán)。圣馬丁室內(nèi)樂團(tuán)贏得了諸多國(guó)際著名音樂獎(jiǎng)項(xiàng)，包括8項(xiàng)"愛迪生大獎(jiǎng)''和一項(xiàng)"加拿大音樂獎(jiǎng)''。圣馬丁室內(nèi)樂團(tuán)還獲得了英國(guó)女王授予的爵位勛章，是唯一一個(gè)獲此殊榮的管弦樂團(tuán)。
