The Shadowboxers' Scott Schwartz, Matt Lipkins and Adam Hoffman mix up alternative pop, rock and southern R+B for Red Room, their full-length debut album arriving January 22 via RCAM. The Atlanta based trio recorded the successor to their introductory 2011 EP in New Orleans with producer Brady Blade (Emmylou Harris, Dave Matthews) and engineer Chris Bell (U2, Erykah Badu), expanding on their penchant for three-part harmonies with a soulful twist and a solid rock backbeat. Hints of the pop 'n soul of Marc Broussard and Hall and Oates along with the chooglin' boogied rock of Dixie-bred bands dating back to The Atlanta Rhythm Section imbue Red Room tracks such as "You Are All I Need" while the rhythmic lyrical flow of "Sidewalk" gives the proceedings a modern streetwise feel. But the real eyeopener here is "Lovers In Rome", a languid, soul-infused track featuring a sinfully rich bed of Hammond B3 chords, brass punctuation and a killer guitar break.
