Profile
Jayashri started learning music from her parents Seetha and Subramaniam. She learnt for 10 years with Smt T R Balamani. She then came under the tutelage of Shri Lalgudi Jayaraman. She has trained in Veena with Shri G Dandapani and in Hindustani music from Shri Mahavir Jaipurwale.
Born in Kolkatta, brought up in Mumbai, she did her Bachelor of Commerce degree from Podar College, Mumbai. She did her Diploma in Music from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, Delhi.
Collaborations
Musical Exchanges and Dialogues
Jayashri has collaborated in jugalbandhis with flautist Pandit Ronu Majumdar and vocalist Shubha Mudgal.
She has also dialogued with danseuse Leela Samson and Priyadarshini Govind. Jayashri has sung Thirukkural and an Annamacharya verse in the prestigious audio autobiography - WINGS OF FIRE of former President Shri Abdul Kalam.
Jayashri has performed in Bhaire Bhavri, the story of Meera, conceptualised and directed by Gowri Ramnarayan. Also performed in Mathemagician with actor V Balakrishnan, written by Gowri Ramnarayan.
She has performed with Ustad Rashid Khan In Coke Studio.
Conceptualised ‘Listening To Life' a concert that features the journey of a musician as a lover of music.
Cross Cultural Collaboration
She has worked on albums with Egyptian pop singer, Hisham Abbas, and Thione Seck, a Sengalese musician.
In 2008 was part of an Indo-Finnish venture ‘Red Earth and Pouring Rain’, where she sang Kuruntokai - ancient poems from Sangam literature - with Avanti, a Philharmonic Orchestra from Finland and set to music by Eero_H?meenniemi.
After the premiere in Helsinki the concert was performed at the festival of Lapland, Finland.
In 2012 ,she sang the poetry of Mirza Ghalib composed by Eero Hameenniemi at the Vantaa festival, Helsinki, Finland.
