簡介
With a slow burning, reverb drenched sound, Echotide are an Australian cinematic/post rock three piece with a dynamic sound ranging from delicate and introspective ambience to an all-encompassing wall-of-sound.
An entirely instrumental approach to song craft affords the band ample room to blaze their own trail, writing intricate rock music with a diverse musical aesthetic. The group's sonic palette shifts effortlessly from uplifting post rock and delicate shoegaze to ambient, symphonic, Americana dirges, heavy metal, drone and film music.
Initially the product of the longrunning musical partnership between multi-instrumentalist Michael Gagen and classical pianist Matthew Martin; the band officially formed in 2007, recruiting drummer Geoff Irish in the process. With the goal to write uncompromising music, structured like classical and performed with rock instrumentation, the trio spent most of their first 5 years away from the stage.
Inside the nucleus of writing room, working on the music that would form their debut 7 track, 71 minute opus; 2012's "as our floodlights gave way to dawn" Echotide's natural, unhurried approach to song craft resulted in an album that received a
thunderclap of international critical acclaim from underground music news sources, post rock blogs, and YouTube.
In 2015 Geoff Irish stepped away from the group, and new drummer Sam Mead, of Brisbane group Trails, joined. This new partnership saw the recording and release of 2017's Into The Half Light.
Live shows saw the group supporting bands such as sleepmakeswaves (NSW), hazards of swimming naked (QLD), NeObliviscaris (VIC) amoung many others.
Echotide's collective influences include: Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Sigur Ros, Jakob, Mono, Pink Floyd, Mogwai, Devin Townsend, Opeth, Tori Amos, Porcupine Tree, God Is An Astronaut, Radiohead, Aphex Twin, Hans Zimmer & Eric Serra.
