Just one listen to his music and you can tell that his music is light years away from what Gospel music is today. He is not traditional; He is Sam Blair, an Inspirational Artist. Sam is making music for those who want to hear about Jesus in their language. His unique and engaging way of praise is bound to captivate your attention.
Samuel E. Blair, better known by his stage name, "Sam Blair", is a Christian R&B & Pop artist. The 27 year old singer was born in Guyana, South America but raised in Brooklyn and Jamaica, Queens, New York. From a very young age Sam began singing in church choirs, music groups and talent shows. A lover of many genres of music, he developed an eclectic taste for the arts.
Growing up in a West Indian household, Sam naturally listened to reggae, soca and calypso music. His parents Wilfred and Sanchari Blair always encouraged him to venture and pursue his dreams. Living in Brooklyn developed his love for the Hip-Hop and Pop culture. With so much exposure to various ethnicities, Sam had an array of influences. He listened to greats like Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Biggie Smalls, Jay Z, Tupac, Yolanda Adams, Brian McKnight, Luther Vandros, R. Kelly, Usher, Beyonce , Alicia Keys, Fred Hammond, Donnie McClurkin and numerous reggae and soca artists.
In 2009, Sam attended an album release concert and was inspired to pursue what he always knew was part of his divine destiny, ministering through music. At the concert, the host, Pastor Marquis Boone said, “If God put a desire and dream in your heart; do not be afraid to pursue it.” Something in Sam was activated. Naturally, Sam wrestled with the thought because there were so many unknown variables. To understand the uncertainties, you have to consider Sam’s adolescent years. Growing up, all Sam heard were traditional style music. It wasn't appealing to him as a youth. Being a teenager, he gravitated to the secular sound. It wasn’t always so much the lyrics that enticed him but it was the feeling of the sound. He complained tirelessly about not having anything that identity with his generation. He loves God, there’s no question about it, but he wanted to worship in his own unique way.
One morning, Sam awoke from a dream that mesmerized and startled him. In his dream, God told him to quit complaining and do something about it. He said, "In the dream I heard, "Go and do music, don’t be afraid, don’t worry how it will be funded, I will send the right people and I will lead the way." As faith would have it, Sam was lead to Super Producer Douglas Whatley known for hits like “Girls around the world” by Lloyd ft. Lil Wayne and numerous contributions to other hits. He took Sam under his wings and nurtured the gifts inside of him. Douglas assembled a team to develop Sam. He believed in Sam’s vision for his music. During the process Sam discovered his natural ability as a songwriter as you will soon hear.
Sam is currently working on his debut album “REFLECTION” that’s scheduled to be released in Fall of 2011. It’s a compilation of R&B, Pop and Hip-Hop Sounds. With his witty and heartfelt lyrics, you are bound to fall in love with the music without losing the message. These songs will resonate in your heart and spirit. This album is about being redeemed and God showing all of us love, grace and mercy. Like Sam always says, “I’m an imperfect person doing His perfect work. Don’t look to me, look to Him.” With his lead single, "Supernatural Love", scheduled to release November, 2011, the rest will be history.
