“Music has always been a part of me,” says singer & songwriter Stevie Scott. “As far back as I can remember, my mom was always singing to me & my dad was drumming on my knobby knees as I sat in his lap.” For the whimsical 24-year old, making music has always been a part of life.
Growing up in the audience of her parents’ rock band, Stevie was immediately introduced to life as a musician. Recognizing Stevie’s affinity for the stage, they enrolled her in opera lessons at the age of 10. At the same time, they gifted her a keyboard which was the threshold of songwriting for Stevie. “There was a constant flow of sound in my home. I would be writing songs with my sister or practicing arias in my room, my mom would have celtic music playing in the kitchen while she cooked and either my dad or brother would be banging away on the drumset. It was such a lovely, vibrant way to grow up.”
Scott’s childhood was one of music and imagination, filling time at her parents’ rehearsals with make-believe games and singing in back halls where reverb was at it’s best. “I loved getting lost in my own world. I still have a tendency to do that actually,” laughs the singer. Little did she know that this “getting lost” would result in writing songs that would allow others to also find themselves “l(fā)ost” in the music. “I want to see another place when I’m writing. I visualize that place or that feeling & try to explain it so someone else can see it just as clearly as I do in my head.” Her approach to songwriting delves further than a catchy tune. It dives into the depths of the heart’s beating and the soul’s searching to carry her audience away into her dreamland.
Merging the sounds of her parents rock band with her classical training in opera, Stevie has created a place in music for herself. Her sound combines ethereal vocals, opera house-worthy harmonies & the rolling drums of rock and roll to create a unique form of Pop, both melodic and British in it’s form. “I’ve always been a bit of an Anglophile. It was that love for Jane Austen, the Bront? sisters & a good cup of tea that got me into writing this music.”
Scott has already experienced an indie recording deal, recording sessions at Paramount studios, and a promotional deal through Myspace. At the budding age of 24, she is ready to be catapulted into the ranks of her contemporaries. “I think it took me awhile to feel comfortable in my own skin. But I’m finally in a place where the creativity, the music, it feels so natural & right. I love this stage of getting to rest the music on new ears, new hearts. And its for those ears & hearts that I keep doing what I’m doing.”
