See The World is an emerging piano-rock outfit from Minneapolis. With a sound similar to Keane, Augustana, and Death Cab For Cutie, See The World's catchy atmospheric sound has been dubbed "sophisti-pop". See The World is currently touring to promote their freshman release "Broken Cities." The 6-song EP (available on iTunes and AmazonMP3) was produced and engineered by Aaron Ankrum (Grayshot, Elizabeth Hunnicutt, Joel Hanson) and mastered by Peter Doell (Elton John, Ben Harper, Jimmy Eat World, The Jackson 5). Frontman Jeremy "Jasper" Austin Smith writes fresh and relevant lyrics paired with memorable melodies, while guitarist Samuel James Cook fills in the spaces and molds the soundscape.
If you're reading this, it means you've taken a portion of your day to check out See The World, and for that we are in debt to you. Thanks so much for stopping by. Check back often as we are continually working in the studio. See The World is in its infancy, and we're experimenting with possible directions we can take musically. But overall, the message will stay the same. We should live our lives according to the passions we dream about--the things we would do if we could do anything, the things we are gifted in, and the things that make us want to wake up in the morning (or in the middle of the night).
As a songwriter, I keep going back to the idea that we shouldn't waste our lives chasing the societal norm. I'm not saying everyone should go start a rock band, but I AM saying that everyone should take a step back to analyze where they are. For me, I want to write music and be a part of the crazy industry that surrounds it. If that leads me to living in a van, making $10,000 a year, and showering once a week, I will be thrilled.
So, I encourage you to take a step back from what you think you SHOULD be doing, and find out what you WANT to be doing. Maybe it's a career change, maybe it's spending a few hours a week watching classic movies, or maybe it's taking a weekend road trip to practice photography. No matter what, we should figure out a way to follow our passions and see the world that surrounds us from a new perspective.
