Richard Durrant studied guitar, cello and composition at the Royal College of Music, graduating in 1986 with all college guitar prizes, a post graduate scholarship and a successful London, South Bank debut. Since then he has given solo recitals throughout Europe including concerto appearances with the Royal Philharmonic and BBC Concert Orchestras. He has released several solo albums.
Richard also composes television and concert music and spends much of his time producing others (notably the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain). He is the founder of the acoustic label LongMan Records.
In 2007 Richard gave over fifty performances of his “The Guitar Whisperer” show. He is currently completing work on the pilot for his own TV series and will be releasing two new albums and DVD’s during 2008. Bookings for 2008 include an appearance as guest soloist with the RPO at the Royal Albert Hall and yet more “Guitar Whisperer” and classical recitals throughout the UK.
In 2002, to mark his work promoting art in the community, Durrant was presented with a
Daily Mail Golden Jubilee Award by HRH The Prince of Wales.
“A virtuosic display riveting in its effect on the senses...”
Musical Times
"The wild master of the guitar. Durrant is a serious and mature player who can really make his guitar sing...His dazzling virtuosity is almost cinematic in scale...watching him performing the Rodrigo was akin to seeing El Cid on the wide screen.”
