by Gregory McIntoshThe earthy space rock outfit Molasses is yet another project to sprawl from the roots of Canadian art-rock moguls, Godspeed You Black Emperor. Built around songwriter Scott Chernoff, Molasses is comprised of a revolving set of musicians centered in Montreal, Quebec who Chernoff first gathered together in 2000 to record You'll Never Be Well No More. Molasses quickly followed this release up with Trilogie: Toil & Peaceful Life for their second release of 2000, then took some time off, presumably to focus on other projects as many members of the Molasses collective are involved with other ventures such as Fly Pan Am and the Boxhead Ensemble. In 2003, Chernoff again gathered his friends and put out Slow Messe and followed it in 2004 with Trouble at Jinx Hotel.
