by MacKenzie WilsonMoth, a modern rock quartet that mixes indie rock sensibility with clever pop hooks, started out as a garage band in the late '80s. Teenage pals Brad Stenz and Bob Gayol tinkered with punk stylings in their native Cincinnati, OH, but opted for something more chic and fresh come their early adult years. Stenz (guitar) and Gayol (guitar) moved to New York and hooked up with the Replacements' Tommy Stinson and drummer Josh Freese. The relaxed environment allowed the foursome to experiment in the studio; however, Stenz wanted something more permanent. Rocket From the Crypt's Atom Willard (drums) and Hedwig and the Angry Inch's Ted Liscinski (bass) stepped in and a deal with Virgin surfaced in spring 2001. A year later, Provisions, Fiction & Gear was released.
