Katie V first rose to fame in the Coca Cola web-based reality show Green Eyed World. The show was ground-breaking as it was the first to integrate social networking with a reality show. Now determined to focus on the music, Katie V (real name Kate Vogel) releases her debut EP Songs From Under The Covers.
For Songs From Under The Covers Katie has teamed up with hit songwriters including Sacha Skarbeck, Stefan Skarbeck and James Bryan. The end result is 5 varied and interesting songs that should ensure Katie stands out from the crowd. Opening with Green Eyed World it soon becomes clear that Katie is like a quirkier Pixie Lott. She has the same kind of vocal delivery as Lott and the way her English accent comes through is similar too. Having said that her music is very different to Lott’s. Green Eyed World has a dark, menacing tone to it as Katie sweetly sings lots of ‘la la la las’. The strong piano melody drives the track and Katie’s husky voice rips straight through it.
Elswhere on the EP Katie dips her toe into rock with the riff-driven Fight For Love, adopts a laidback beat for ballad Black and Blue and sings accompanied only by a ukulele on closer Fly Away With Me. The EP’s highlight is the ballad Live and Learn. The track is stripped back and allows you to hear the true depth of Katie’s voice. She swoops and soars as the passion takes over her voice.
