The album’s art was created as a large-scale painting by LA artist, Charley Alexander, using abstracted patterns, shapes and color scales, and then cut into 50 squares, each of which will be sold with limited copies of the vinyl record.
Unlike previous material that primarily pulled from relationships, Mode’s inspirations are more diverse, owing more to multimedia art, namely Jean-Luc Godard’s recent film, Goodbye to Language, and the light installations of James Turrell.
Brett remain committed to writing material that’s refined and engaging, but also approachable. Although Mode is more mature than their previous work, the album embodies that viewpoint, reminding us that pop music is supposed to be fun too.
